The P14 Enfield was designed after the British struggled against
Mauser rifles in the Boer War, and fearing at the outbreak of war that the Germans would have an advantage they set up production in America. But by the time enough P14s were available, the SMLE had already proven its worth and become the standard issue British rifle. However, the P14 was a more accurate rifle, so saw some use with snipers.
